Art Gallery

Nationally recognized automotive artists will exhibit their work in the art gallery. From original pieces to prints and posters, artists also have shown photography and sculpture.

The art gallery is open during Saturday evening's Preview Party and Sunday from 10:30 to 4 pm during the Concours.

Dan McCrary – 2026 Featured Artist

Dan McCrary was born in Raleigh, NC, in 1949. His earliest memories are of old Ford Coupes with loud, unmuffled flathead engines roaring around the quarter-mile oval at Raleigh Speedway in the mid-1950s. The sound, colors, and spectacle had him hooked for life.

From the age of six, McCrary was a car geek—a gearhead. He spent his allowance on car magazines, fueling his interest in everything with wheels: Hot Rods, Custom Cars, Sports Cars, Grand Prix, Indy and Sprint Cars. Naturally, cars also became the subjects of his childhood drawings.

While attending high school in Greenville, NC, McCrary and his friends formed a band after receiving guitars for Christmas. During the 1960s, he spent several years in the music business, along with time at East Carolina University and a couple of years in the Army. After leaving the Army, a band job brought him to Charlotte, where the group spent some time as Jackie Wilson’s backing band.

Eventually, McCrary grew tired of life on the road and took a job in a music store, where he rediscovered his passion for sports cars and automotive art. He began drawing and painting cars again on the side and, around 1980, transitioned into automotive art full-time, with watercolor becoming his medium of choice.

McCrary initially searched for car shows in Hemmings Motor News as venues to sell his work. As he traveled and gained exposure, he began receiving invitations to participate in juried and invitational automotive art exhibitions at Concours d’Elegance events across the country. Over the years, his work has been featured in numerous automotive publications, received awards at many Concours, and become part of several prominent private and corporate collections. He has also attained signature membership in Automotive Fine Arts Society, American Watercolor Society, and National Watercolor Society.

McCrary continues to live in Charlotte, NC, with his wife of 53 years, Lynn.
